The small town of Wallingford aims to make a big difference when it comes to the environment. Local green group, Sustainable Wallingford has won several awards for pioneering schemes like its Real Nappy Trial and the Fir Tree School Vegetable Garden. There are also similar groups in many of the surrounding villages. And with a number of leading conservation and environmental organisations based in or near the town, it’s not surprising that awareness of green issues is high.
New local initiatives include a campaign to make Wallingford plastic bag free following the example of Modbury in Devon and a community Thermal Imaging project in the neighbouring village of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell.
Saying no to plastic. The winning design for the Wallingford Bag was created by Leo from Wallingford School, with a slogan by Esme and Saule of St John's School.
