Welcome to Wallingford, Oxfordshire

Whether as a destination for a day visit or the base for a longer visit, Wallingford is a great choice. It’s easy to while away the time in Wallingford Museum, browsing in Wallingford's antique shops, taking a leisurely stroll around the Castle Gardens, the former site of one of England’s most impressive citadels, or tracing the remains of Wallingford’s Saxon past.

Agatha Christie and Midsomer Murders

Wallingford also has a strong presence in murder mystery fiction. Agatha Christie (whose remains are buried at nearby Cholsey) lived and worked in Wallingford, taking influence from local landmarks and residents in Winterbrook for stories such as Miss Marple. More recently, Wallingford is the location of Causton in the TV series Midsomer Murders. Many of the series' extras herald from Wallingford and much of the filming is completed in this beautiful part of the country. Take a look at visitmidsomer to learn more.
